Our last few shows were a blast! East Bay Mini Maker Faire was a success and Matt spent most of the day teaching attendees how to mod their old Game Boys. We had an awesome lineup of chip artists from all over the Bay Area, including Doctor Popular, starpause, E.N. Cowell and A_Rival. We were also lucky to have Max Capacity and Adam Scradam return for visuals. Doc and Matt even found a bit of a break in the day-long event to hold an impromptu jam session with Nanoloop and banjo in the middle of the fairgrounds!

PoW !

The following week, we played a really fun rock show with The Phenomenauts and The Bloodtypes at The Crepe Place in Santa Cruz. Now, we’ve played some rockin’ shows, but this one was definitely rockin’ in its own special way. I think all of the bands had amazing energy, fun outfits, and just overall knew how to put on a show. Major thanks to Grand Fanali Presents for booking this for us. Also thanks to AJAPOPFILMS for documenting the event. Matt and I dressed up as Chell and Rat Man from Portal 2. He even made a Companion Cube at the last minute out of cardboard, foam, and felt!

With The Bloodtypes!

We capped off that weekend with our last show of the year at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco with the super sexy, freakin’ funky Planet Booty, Easystreet, and Hottub DJs. It hasn’t been a month yet since our last show, and I thought we’d be able to have a nice, restful break, but things are picking up speed again.

With January coming up in less than two months, we’re finishing up our split release with Milwaukee friends Awkward Terrible. We absolutely adore those guys and can’t wait ’til they arrive in January to release this ish with us! Also on the plate is our second album, but that’s further down the line. Some of you guys were able to catch our new song at one of our last shows. We’ll be able to release some samples online soon. We’ll also have some new merch available soon, so stay tuned! Our 1-year anniversary is also coming up, and we’ll have a few special things revolving around that as well.

xoxo,

PulsewaveSF at the East Bay 2011 Mini Maker Faire

We’re gearing up for our last shows of the year at Café Du Nord in San Francisco and The Crepe Place in Santa Cruz, but we’ve got one more fun outing before we bury ourselves in lyrics sheets and LSDJ modules for our next album…

On October 16th, we’ll be playing at the East Bay 2011 Mini Maker Faire on the PulsewaveSF stage. Although we go on at 3:40, there’s awesome local chip being played all day – The Dualies, Starpause, Doc Pop, Louis Gorenfeld, E.N. Cowell and A_Rival will be gracing our stage as well as some special guests, and a half hour anything-goes jam session at the end of the day!

On top of that, we’ll have the blue-ribbon winning chip gear demo table that we showed off at the big Maker Faire in San Mateo in May, as well as a new modding workshop, where you can bring your own Game Boy and we’ll help you improve the sound output level, install a backlight, and more!

And on top of that, you have the entire rest of Mini Maker Faire to enjoy – fighting robots, crazy machines, everything you could possibly imagine doing with an Arduino… it’s all here!

Check out the faire at http://ebmakerfaire.wordpress.com/

We had an amazing time playing the entire weekend at Maker Faire in San Mateo. We played Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 on the Digital Sound Space stage by PulsewaveSF. It was such an honor to share the stage with other awesome chip/electronic artists like crashfaster (who we’re touring with in two weeks!), starpause, Mr. Spastic (who is playing with us at Meltdown Comics in LA), Doctor Popular, and Hyperwave to name a few. On Sunday, we shared our set with super-awesome visualist Max Capacity (see photo above). We also got to play on the Solar Stage that day:

Thanks to some familiar faces from our last (first) show for coming out! And thanks to all the new fans we met at Maker Faire who made their way onto our Facebook Fan Page and Twitter. If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out!

We still have a few things on the agenda before we kick off our Quest Coast Tour 2011 with crashfaster. We got a few more days in the studio finishing up our long-awaited debut EP and finalizing all the little details. We also have one more show coming up!

Friday, June 3 we’ll be performing at SubZERO Festival. It’s a street festival in San Jose, CA in the city’s SoFA District. If you’re in the Bay Area and want to catch us one last time before we leave, make sure you head on over! Did we mention it was free? More details can be found at http://www.subzerofestival.com/ or our Shows page.

See you all soon!

Here’s what we’ve been up to, basically! Have you heard the new track yet? Head on over to our Bandcamp page at http://theglowingstars.bandcamp.com

lizziecuevas:

For my new band The Glowing Stars, things have been really kicking off since we released our first track “I Know Now” on the internet. Special thanks to my cousin Phoebe Jacinto for recording backup vocals, Riki Feldmann for mixing our demo on such short notice, and Mike Bombon for designing our kickass logo and art for our demo.

Please “Like” our Fan Page on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/theglowingstars if you dig our song! We have another song on the way called “Got it Bad” which should be released really soon. We’ll also be at PAX East giving away some cool stuff, so all you people out on the East Coast should come by!

On the subject of chiptunes, there will be an awesome nerdcore and chiptunes show tomorrow night in San Francisco at Bamm.tv Studio! For those not in San Francisco, you can stream the show live at http://bamm.tv . Some of the artists performing are Crashfaster, who also puts on 8bitsf which Anamanaguchi has played, and Doctor Popular, who has actually asked me to perform a song with him! So yes, I will also be performing a song with him during his set, so don’t miss it! More info about the event here:

http://w2.eff.org/birthday/

So, all that aside, we do have some great plans ahead for The Glowing Stars that hasn’t been announced yet. Some really big things, and some smaller things. More on that later, so make sure to at least follow my band on Twitter. 🙂
